Everyone believed A$AP Rocky and Rihanna were dating, but in a recent interview, he confirms their relationship and labels her “the one.”
When the singer/name designer’s was mentioned, the rapper replied, “The love of my life.” “My woman,” I say.
He didn’t reveal when they met, but they had a long history together. He joined her on stage for her MTV VMA performance of “Cockiness (Remix)” in 2012, and grabbed her behind. He opened for her Diamonds World Tour the following year. They walked the red carpet together at the British Fashion Awards in December 2019, only to spend more time together after her breakup from Hassan Jameel was confirmed the following month. He was even included in her Fenty Beauty ad campaign.
When asked how he felt about being in a relationship, he answered, “It’s a huge improvement. It’s so much better if you’ve found the one. She’s probably the same as a million of the others.”
The artist, who has admitted to being a sex addict, has stated that he is embracing monogamy, saying, “I believe that once you know, you know. She’s the only one who can help you.”
Rocky discussed his trip home to Barbados with Rihanna last Christmas — and his own connection to the island, from which his father fled to the United States.
He described the visit as “almost like a homecoming.” “It was insane. Before my father came to America, I always envisioned what life would be like for him. And I was able to visit those locations, which, believe it or not, had a nostalgic feel to them. It seemed strange but familiar at the same time.”
During the pandemic, they also took a tour bus trip. While just enjoying time together, they visited six cities and a couple national parks. Along the ride on the bus, they listened to the Stones, the Grateful Dead, and Curtis Mayfield. He drank acid and sewed, patched, and tie-dyed his own clothes.
He claimed he “met himself” on the road and had never felt so free, especially with a companion, before. “I’d never had anything like it before.”
“I believe it’s vital to have somebody that you can bounce those creative impulses and ideas off of,” he remarked of Rihanna’s influence on his new album, tentatively titled All Smiles.
He even mentioned the possibility of becoming a father, if it happens.
““Absolutely,” he responded if it was in his destiny. “I believe I would make a great, remarkable, and all-around fantastic father. I’d have an extremely feisty kid. Extremely.”
Rocky also discussed being imprisoned in Sweden in 2019 following a street brawl in Stockholm that resulted in an assault charge. With then-President Trump tweeting to #FreeRocky, it became a global issue. He remembered being in his cell and hearing Trump’s name and his name in the same sentence on the television in Swedish.
“I was like, ‘Oh, f**k!'” he recalled thinking.
While he was “very grateful” for Trump’s interest in his case, which he expressed to him in a phone call after his release, he was also concerned that the controversial president’s interest in his case could be harmful. That’s because he was assured he’d be free in about a week by Swedish authorities, and he was worried that “they felt like they had a point to prove because [Trump] kept saying stuff… I was praying it wouldn’t change for the worst.”
He was released pending a verdict after a three-day trial. While he was found guilty, he was handed a two-year conditional sentence with no additional jail time.
Trump, Rocky claimed, “didn’t help.” Rocky clarified the “misperception” by saying, “He made attempts and he rooted for me to come home, but he didn’t free me.”
