Remember Anheuser-Busch’s promise to give Americans free beer if the White House hit its goal of 70% of U.S. adults by July 4? The beer maker is keeping its word, even though the country fell just short of that goal.
Starting Friday and through Monday at 11:59 p.m. ET, adults 21 and older can go to MyCooler.com/beer and upload a picture of themselves at their favorite place to have a beer (such as a local bar or restaurant, backyard or baseball stadium). They will get an email with a digital gift card worth $5, the average retail price of an Anheuser-Busch product. They can use the card to claim a free beer through Monday.
Also as part of the celebration of progress the U.S. made towards vaccinations, Budweiser released a new “Go Fourth, America” video starring actor Bill Pullman, who reprises his role as president in the film “Independence Day.” Pullman urges Americans in a comedic speech to celebrate their independence “not from alien invaders …(but) from separation while being cooped up, baking bread and ignoring basic hygiene.”

In the two-minute digital film titled “Go Fourth, America,” Pullman states that independence has “new meaning for us all today and whether you drive a pickup or a hybrid, you live in the heartland or on the coast or whether you pronounce it ‘America’ or ‘Murica.’ We are all Americans, seldom on the same page, but reading from the same book, on holidays anyway.”
Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said about 65% of U.S. adults have gotten at least one COVID-19 shot, and 56% are fully vaccinated. The White House expects that 70% of all American adults will have at least one shot within a few weeks.
Anheuser-Busch’s free beer promotion comes as many businesses and state health departments continue to urge Americans to get vaccinated. Panera Bread is giving away free bagels July 2-4 to vaccinated customers. Both CVS Health and Kroger have vaccine sweepstakes running through July 10.
Even though the U.S. did not hit the 70% goal, Anheuser-Busch wanted to acknowledge the nation’s progress around the Independence Day holiday, the company said.
“When we teamed up with White House to encourage Americans to get vaccinated, we recommitted to using our unique capabilities and deep connection to consumers to lead the safe and strong recovery of our country and economy,” said Anheuser-Busch CEO Michel Doukeris in a statement. Doukeris will take over the role of global CEO of Anheuser-Busch InBev starting July 1.
Budweiser is also giving away $10,000 to help some throw even better July 4th parties. To enter, just reply to one of Budweiser’s social posts across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram with #GoFourthAmerica #Sweepstakes, follow @BudweiserUSA and include their Venmo handle, by noon ET Thursday.
