Atlanta Falcons linebacker Barkevious Mingo was arrested Thursday and accused of sexual contact with a child, according to the Arlington Police Department.
Mingo posted a $25,000 bond and was released from custody, according to Tarrant County, Texas, bond records.
The alleged offense is a felony in Texas that can carry up to 20 years in prison depending on whether it’s a second or third-degree charge.
Mingo turned himself in after talking to his attorney, an Arlington Police press release stated.
Due to the nature of the alleged incident, the Arlington Police Department could not release any more information.
“Our organization became aware of the allegations involving Barkevious Mingo today and are currently gathering information on this incident,” the Falcons said in a statement to multiple outlets Saturday. “The Falcons take the allegations very seriously and will continue to monitor the situation.”
A spokesperson for the Falcons did not return a request for comment.
Mingo signed a one-year contract with the Falcons in March. A 2013 first-round pick by the Cleveland Browns, the linebacker has played for five teams after being traded to the New England Patriots in 2016.
