In a late-breaking development, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list and will not play in Sunday’s game against Detroit.
The Steelers have won four straight games and at 5-3 stand a win behind Baltimore in the AFC North.
Roethlisberger, who has previously said he is fully vaccinated, has seen his game decline as he has passed for just 1,986 yards and 10 touchdowns this year along with four interceptions while posting a 90.0 passer rating — his lowest in 13 seasons. However, coach Mike Tomlin has stood by his veteran.
Now, however, the Steelers have no choice but to turn to backup Mason Rudolph.
The Steelers will host winless Detroit at 1 p.m. Sunday.
