It’s National Donut Day, also known as National Doughnut Day, and businesses such as Dunkin’ Donuts and Krispy Kreme are celebrating with fried freebies and other promotions.
The day of the pastry was created in 1938 to remember the Donut Lassies of the Salvation Army, ladies who provided the pastries to soldiers during World War I. On the first Friday in June, it is customarily observed.
On Friday, Krispy Kreme will give all customers a free doughnut, but vaccinated customers can get two free doughnuts if they show documentation of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
Walmart’s retail hours will be extended. Stores will open at 6 a.m. on Saturday, with senior hours continuing.
After stopping for COVID, Sam’s Club has joined Costco in bringing back free samples to clubs across the country.
