Lady Gaga claims she became pregnant at the age of 19 after being raped by a music promoter early in her career, a tragedy that she credits for causing her to have a “complete psychotic break.”
On Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry’s Apple TV+ show “The Me You Can’t See,” which focuses on mental health, the singer-songwriter opened up about the ordeal.
Lady Gaga, whose hits include “Born This Way” and “Shallow,” said she had a “total psychotic break” after being raped years ago. “For a couple years, I was not the same girl,” she admitted.
After being admitted to the hospital for chronic pain, Gaga was diagnosed with PTSD, she said.
The Grammy and Oscar winner said the producer kept her “locked way” in a studio and threatened to burn her music unless she removed her clothing. The singer declined to name the producer, stating that she “ever want to face that person again.”
In a 2014 interview with Howard Stern, Gaga revealed that she had been raped by a producer 20 years her senior, claiming that it was the inspiration for her 2013 song “Swine.”
