Looking for a fun twist on a racing game? Nintendo has brought its beloved Mario Kart franchise to the real world with Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit for Nintendo Switch. This gaming accessory converts just about any floor into a Mario Kart track complete with checkpoints, power-ups and surprises.

While the Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit game is a free download from Nintendo, you need a Nintendo character kart set to actually play it. Happily, Amazon has Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit—Luigi Set on sale for $90, its all-time lowest price. It’s so popular that it’s earned a flawless five-star rating from more than 1,000 reviewers.

And if you have Amazon Prime, you’ll get free shipping, of course. Not yet a member? No problem. You can sign up for your free 30-day trial here. (And by the way, those without Prime still get free shipping on orders of $25 or more.)

Create a course

If Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is starting to get stale, then you just might need a more realistic challenge. The Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit—Luigi Set comes with four cardboard checkpoints or ‘gates’ that you can place on a floor (at least a 10 x 12 foot area) to create your own course.

Each set comes with a physical kart (in this case with Luigi in the driver’s seat) that comes equipped with a camera, so you can get a point-of-view look at all of the action. The set syncs to your Nintendo Switch, so you can use its Joy-Con controllers to drive your way through the course. Just make sure to clean your floors first!

“…The car is bigger than I thought,” shared a delighted gamer. “It looks great on screen and handles better than expected. Pro tip: Clean your play area first. This will grab loose fibers and hair and gum up the wheels quickly if left unchecked. Plenty of laughs right out of the box.”

Augmented reality

The Luigi car’s camera and the Nintendo Switch use augmented reality to display power-ups, enemies, mystery boxes and other surprises on the console’s viewfinder in handheld mode or on your TV for a bigger view in real-time. So it’s like you’re playing Mario Kart in the real world!

“I had a lot of fun with the kart and it syncs really well to play the game. You don’t even need the internet to play it,” wrote a satisfied five-star reviewer. “…The gameplay brings you back to classic Mario Kart but this time in your home.”

You can also unlock different in-game environments, gates, vehicles, costumes and more to keep the game fresh and exciting.

At $90 (was $100), the Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit—Luigi Set is a great way to breathe new life into Mario Kart. It can be played with up to four players, but you’d have to get more than one set for head-to-head action in the physical world.

“This game is so cool. It feels like a real Mario kart game on the console even though the toy kart looks slow in real life,” raved another five-star reviewer. “So innovative and so much fun — and the thing just works perfectly. You can even drift! And my cats like to join in which is not only hilarious but looks like a giant monster is chasing or batting at your kart. This is my favorite Switch accessory so far.”
