Manchester United could offer Paul Pogba in a swap agreement to sign Raphael Varane this summer.
The French midfielder has 12 months left on his contract, and there has been no progress over an extension.
Talks are planned after Euro 2020, but United could be inclined to offload him if there is no breakthrough.
According to Sport, the Red Devils are interested in signing Varane, who could leave Real Madrid this summer.
The centre-back has snubbed a new deal beyond June next year, and he is widely expected to be sold.
He is valued at around £80m, and United are unlikely to meet the price. Instead, they plan to propose a swap.
Madrid are long-admirers of Pogba, and the midfielder has previously talked about the desire to play for them.
United could propose a straight-exchange deal for Varane, with compatriot Pogba heading in the opposite direction.
It is unclear whether Madrid would entertain the approach from United.
