A blast was reported in a bus carrying Pakistani and Chinese workers to a  dam construction site in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

At least 10 persons, including six Chinese engineers, were killed when a massive bomb blast ripped through a bus carrying them in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkwha region on Wednesday. There were two Pakistani soldiers among the dead, news agency Reuters reported, adding that the death toll could rise. According to Dawn.com, the bus was carrying workers to the Dasu hydropower plant in the Upper Kohistan district.

The incident took place at about 7:30 am when the bus was carrying over 30 people to the plant site.

The website quoted a senior police officer as that  mobile network was not functional in the area when the incident took place making the flow the information difficult. 

Chinese engineers and construction workers are helping Pakistan build a dam in Kohistan.

In Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said China was “shocked by and condemns the bomb attack in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.”

A government spokesman for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province Kamran Bangash asked the media not to speculate because officers were still investigating. He said helicopters were transporting critically injured persons to hospitals for treatment and investigators would soon brief the media about the cause of the incident, AP reported.
