They cast a spell on you, and now they’re coming after you! With the live-action comedy Hocus Pocus 2, the Sanderson Sisters will return to your television screens.

Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy will reprise their roles as the witches Winifred, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson in the original sequel film, which will premiere on Disney+ in 2022. Hocus Pocus 2 will be released nearly 30 years after the first film, which was released in 1993.

Disney+ is developing a new ‘Hocus Pocus’ film.
With a writer on board, there’s still hope for the original stars to return.
Three young women unwittingly bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern-day Salem in this sequel to the Halloween cult classic, and they must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from unleashing further devastation on the world.

Anne Fletcher, who is taking over directing duties from friend and colleague Adam Shankman, is set to start shooting this fall. Shankman is presently directing the Enchanted sequel Disenchanted with Amy Adams, but he will continue to be a creative power as an executive producer on Hocus Pocus 2.

“People need to laugh now more than ever. “We should laugh every day, and there’s a lot of pleasure to be had with these three incredible women playing delectable characters from such a popular film,” director Anne Fletcher says. “I’m ecstatic to be able to help bring these witches back to life, and the fact that I’ll be working with my Disney friends again makes it even more meaningful. This is a film for everyone, from the original film’s fans to the next generation of moviegoers, and I’m excited to get started.”

Ralph Winter and David Kirschner will work with producer Lynn Harris and co-producer Steven Haft as executive producers alongside Shankman.

“As disappointed as I am that I won’t be able to direct my friends Bette, Sarah Jessica, and Kathy in what is sure to be nothing short of a huge event for Disney+ due to schedule conflicts, I couldn’t be happier to be giving over the keys to Anne, who has brought so much fun and joy into people’s lives with her past work,” Shankman says of the directing shakeup.

As Disney+ prepares for production, keep an eye out for Hocus Pocus 2 updates. You can also catch up on the original film on the streaming platform right now.
